The leading international lawyer, Sir Ian Brownlie, QC, has tragically been killed in a road accident while on holiday in Cairo with members of his family.
Ian Mill QC, joint head of Blackstone Chambers where Sir Ian was a tenant, said: “Members of Blackstone Chambers and staff have been deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely death of Sir Ian Brownlie QC in a car crash in Egypt on 3rd January. Ian had been a member of Blackstone Chambers for over 25 years, during which time he continued to have both a phenomenal impact on the legal world as one of its most distinguished and renowned practitioners in the fields of international law and human rights, as well as playing an invaluable role in the life and development of Chambers. His loss is, and will continue to be, deeply felt by all those with whom he worked closely, both here and throughout the world. We have been touched by the many comments and messages of condolence that have been received by us since the news of his death. Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this very difficult time.”
